uDig 0.8 is at an early stage of development, we are starting to focus on the usability of the system. Please stay tuned for updates to the data workflow. See the GeoConnections Project Schedule for more information.

This release is built on a new CRS Foundation - a big thanks to Geotools and especially Martin for all their hard work.

UDIG 0.8 Quickstart

Windows Install,

Download the Windows 0.8.0 Installer, run and enjoy. This is a large (60 meg) download that includes a JRE all set up and ready to go.

Manual Install:

Download a Java Runtime and required extensions

	J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1, Java Advanced Imaging 1.1.2_01 For JRE & JAI Image I/O Tools 1.0_01 for JRE & soap
	J2SE v 5.0 JRE, Advanced Imaging v 1.1.2 & Imaging IO v 1.0.01 RC & soap

Download the 3.1 M4 RCP Runtime Binary suitable for your platform:
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
Linux (x86/GTK 2)
Unzip the RCP Runtime Binary where you would like to install UDIG 0.8.0
Download RCP Extra and unzip into your RCP folder
Download UDIG 0.8.0 and unzip into you RCP folder
(You will need to overwrite several files such as config.ini)
Run udig and enjoy

Notes:

The focus on this release has been on "search & see", uDig can now be used to locate a wide varity of freely available information.

This release features improved non-blocking DnD functionality.

We are especially interested in:

any wms & wfs servers that don't function (please use jira)
any wms or wfs services you know of (please email the list)
anything that freezes the screen, ie blocks the event thread (please use jira)

The next release is focused on data workflow: connect, open, and add layer. Please stay tuned for improvements.
