I'm thinking forward to 3d processing (not rendering for now, just processing) like volumes processing what to do if I want that? coverage has any idea?

There is the need for a proper datamodel and VISAD has it.

Voxels is something that actually is not addressed at all
is there any reason that you can't use the VISAD model? (I like that, we would love to use VISAD)

When the right will come to think about this, most probably VISAD will taken as the datamodel to use.
