The uDig 1.1.x branch has been in production for two years now, with a focus on supporting projects from around the world. We need to tie off this development and show the user community all the results of all this hard work.
After the 1.1.0 release we will double back and focus on the SDK and developer documentation as time, available volunteers and training courses permit.
FR help does not have quickstart and words are messed up
linux udig.ini missing a -data option (resulting in a workspace conflict with normal eclipse use)

Are we still using GeoTools 2.2.x
Yes we are. The uDig 1.1.x series will have a long life and will be locked down to the GeoTools 2.2.x series of releases.
The changes made to GeoTools 2.3 onward have introduced errors (particularly with regards to the use of Filter). We are going to see these mistakes fixed on GeoTools trunk (where we have the rest of the community around to back us up).
