Welcome Students!

This year we are just providing a list of good ideas, not specific to the Google Summer of Code program. These ideas are only here to get you thinking - we welcome your thoughts and contributions! If you have any questions drop on by the uDig developers list and ask.

If you:

  • just have time to jot down a a note, please add it as a comment to this page (you will need to sign up to the wiki here before you can leave a comment)
  • have a idea you want to pursue, stop by the mailing list for a sanity check (and to meet people)
  • if the idea is so wonderful it is time to start drawing pictures let's break out a wiki page

A bit of background here, we are interested in creating new and wonderful plug-ins for the uDig GIS Platform, you will find the community open, supportive, and such things as svn access easy to obtain. The strength of the Eclipes RCP plug-in system lets us keep a much more relaxed attitude then most open source projects.

One other thing we can offer is this - your own application. Because uDig can serve as a base, what ever idea you cook up can be packaged up as a custom application for download, with your own branding and so on. Please go over our developers documentation and see for yourself.
